November 19, 2007 — Two books, four posters and an odd number of other printed materials later, the Comité Noviembre work wrapped up on November sixteenth. In addition to over 140 pages of layout and design (across 12 files), grupoHuracán processed the order to print 5,300 books, 5,000 posters and over 3,000 cards and envelopes. “It wasn’t the amount of work, but the deadlines we were working under that made this project particularly demanding,” says Rafael Merino Cortés. “It was an interesting experience working with Teresa Santiago, Comité Noviembre's Chairperson. Also, having Lou Di Rico over at Arland Printing [New Hyde Park, NY] gave us the extra headroom to push the limit with this project. At the end, we were satisfied with the work we delivered, on time and on budget, considering the circumstances. And although this was a challenging job, working with people like Teresa and Lou has helped us reconsider our print design business. Books and other long-form layout work was not exactly in our 'love-to-do' list. Now, we're hungry to put together more work like this, especially if it involves culturally, socially or other educational material.” Established in 1987, Comité Noviembre…mes de la herencia puertorriqueña, is the only collaboration of its kind in the United States that brings together the collective talents and resources of the oldest and most prestigious Puerto Rican organizations: the Institute for the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Elderly, ASPIRA of New York, the Association of Hispanic Arts, el Museo del Barrio, Eugenio María de Hostos Community College, el Centro de Estudios Puertorriqueños, the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration, National Institute for Latino Policy, the National Congress for Puerto Rican Rights – Justice Committee, National Puerto Rican Forum, and the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund. This volunteer coordinating body plans and promotes Comité Noviembre’s annual programs and events.
