Blind Leading the Blind Movie Website
July 23rd, 2007 — Daniel Gonzales, the New York City based actor (“The Sentinel”) and comedian (Nuyorican Rule comedy troupe), produced and directed “Blind Leading the Blind,” a short film about two Puerto Rican homeboys who lose themselves in the amusing world of an old, blind Jewish woman. He then turned to grupoHuracán to deliver a CMS-based site for the film.

"The first challenge was building the main template pretty much from the ground up, tweaking the CSS and optimizing the ‘heavy’ red graphics to keep the whole thing light, quick and visually cohesive," said Rafael Merino of grupoHuracán. “The second challenge was implementing a simple, dynamic image gallery that could be easily updated from the front end [registered users]. This was the real trick because we’re not happy with anything available for this CMS and we wanted to keep things as integrated as possible. We ‘settled’ with the best native component that had what we needed, and managed to tweak it just enough to look and function well. Unfortunately, the code for the component is not as efficient as it could be, but we didn’t have time (or budget) to do much programming.”

A simple rotating graphic in the form of character outlines was used on the right side of the layout to meld the backgrounds of the body and page. The latter uses a Braille motif, which makes up most of the splash page. “I hate intro/splash pages, even though we use one here,” Rafael continued. “It was Danny’s idea to do an entire Web page covered in Braille, and we thought it was pretty funny.”
