Latino Educational Media Center Website |
February
19th, 2007 — The website for the Latino Educational Media Center went
live yesterday, as Lillian Jimenez, the organization’s executive
director, held a screening of her documentary, "Antonia Pantoja ¡Presente!" at the Museum of Modern Art. The site,
www.lemctr.org, including hosting and maintenance, was donated by grupoHuracán in recognition of Lillian's
invaluable work in the Latino community in New York.
"Antonia Pantoja ¡Presente!" is about the late Dr. Antonia Panotja, a community leader who
spearheaded public education reform in New York City in the 1970s and
80s. This documentary, which Ms. Jimenez produced and directed, is at the forefront of LEMC's work.
“I’ve had the pleasure of working for and learning from Lillian for
several years now, including some work on the Antonia Pantoja project,”
said Rafael Merino, a senior partner of grupoHuracán. “The site is a
basic, static HTML job with dark, elegant tones which I felt commanded
attention to the depth and importance of the work. The site also
incorporates the clean and simple Java-based gallery we use here,”
referring to grupoHuracán’s own portfolio gallery. “Lillian will
provide us with a trailer or some clips from the Antonia Pantoja
documentary soon and we’ll set up a QuickTime window to showcase that.
Eventually, we’ll be migrating the site to a CMS and transfer the movie
files to a Flash-based player,” he concluded, alluding to the potential
growth of the Latino Educational Media Center.
